How Anemia Affects The Functioning Of Kidneys?

Anemia is the loss in the count of Red Blood Cells but it is often misunderstood by the deficiency of iron only. These decreased counts of RBCs are a cause of concern for kidneys. Kidneys are the natural filtering agents of the human body. It regulates the formation of Red Blood Cells in the body.

Red Blood Cells are the natural supplier of oxygen to the body's tissues. So if the count of RBCs declines it is a clear symptom that the amount of oxygen in the blood is not enough.

There is no exact cause that why this happens but there are five different types of Anemia classified in the medical books:

• Aplastic Anemia: In this type of anemia, the human body produces fewer amounts of blood cells. With this type of Anemia, you become more prone to get in contact with infections and uncontrolled bleeding.
• Iron deficiency anemia: As the name suggests, this is the deficiency of iron in the blood. In this type of anemia, the production of red blood cells decreases and the supply of oxygen to the body's tissues get decreases.
• Sickle cell anemia: It is the type of anemia that comes in inheritance. A condition when the productions of red blood cells are not in the amounts required normally in the body.
• Thalassemia: It is a type of anemia that is inherited from the biological parents where the presence of hemoglobin count decreases in the body.
• Vitamin deficiency anemia: It is the type of anemia where the count of healthy Red Blood Cells decreases because of the lack of Vitamin and multivitamins in the body.

How to know that you are driving towards the stage of Anemia?

Causes of Anemia can be determined by the following:

• Your body is not producing enough Red Blood Cells: Inadequate stimulation of red blood cell production by the hormone erythropoietin, which is produced by the kidneys also, less consumption of required iron and vitamins by the human body, underactive Thyroid or hypothyroidism.
• Excess of bleeding: Menstrual bleeding, Gastrointestinal conditions that include cancer, gastritis, and ulcers, etc. and consumption of NSAIDs in excess amounts.
• Auto-immune diseases: IgA Nephropathy, Chronic Kidney Diseases, Hypothyroidism
• Family history: Anemia can come from inheritance like sickle cell anemia.
• Pregnancy: During pregnancy, the woman is advised to consume supplements of iron and calcium. During pregnancy, the blood count decreases and such supplements help in maintaining the balance of necessary nutrients in the body but if it doesn't happen then it can become a cause of Anemia.
